Against the tide of years is the sequel to Island in the Sea of Time. It is a very good book, with Nantucketers making an alliance with ancient Babylon, William Walker conquering Mycenae and much of Greece, and Iskeretol of Tartessos attacking Nantucket itself.

Vulcan is a factory space station, run by the Company, and its owners were plotting against the Eternal Emperor. Sten was a Mig, a nearly unpaid worker, nickle and dimed out of almost every cent he had. Once he finally got fed up, he decided to rebel. He attempted to stowaway and got caught; which sent him on a one way ticket to the exotics section, an area where the Company did things that required a special environment. Naturally, since the environment is poison to humans, the area was used as punishment. When Sten was fed up again, he blew a hole in it and went on the Outside in his enviro suit. Once he came back in, he was found by a Delinq, a member of the runaway gangs who harried the shipments of Vulcan. Eventually, he was found by an Imperial recruiting officer, and went into the army, but things do not bode well for Sten!

I really enjoyed this book because it had an interesting storyline, and it has a sequel. If a book has or is a sequel, I like it better.

It doesn't have much swearing; the main swear words are made up (Clot, Drakh). It does have some actual swearing, h*** and da**.

It is 150 years in the future, and the space program has finally got off the ground. Aliens have attacked, and the Earth is mobilizing for war, training new crews and building new ships. Before the UN deals with the Tracs, it must deal with a threat from the inside. Mars and its fellow colonies on asteroids are growing restless, and the UN has to deal with them, as well, should they try to secede, or worse, start a civil war.

Justin is headed to the Academy, to fill some huge shoes of his hero father, and to see if he will survive "scrub summer," the first summer, a probationary period, until they could join in full. Matt is also headed there, off a solar sailor ship. They makes friends, enemies, girlfriends, and bad grades on the way through.

This book is a good book; ok for kids but it has mild swearing. I would range it from 11+ age. The reason I liked this book is because Forstchen had a good grasp of the mix of humor, politics, suspense, and action to make a truly excellent story.

I give this book a nine out of ten; and if there is a sequel; 10/10.

I will review books that are good for kids. I may also comment on books that aren't good for kids. I will comment on old books, new books, and everything in between. I may comment on movies and computer games, as well.

My kriticisms are geared towards kids like me, as well as their parents.
